Crown Lengthening
Dental crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that can improve the appearance of a “gummy” smile. If you are unhappy with your smile because your teeth seem too short and it looks as though you have more gum tissue visible than actual tooth, it might not necessarily mean that your teeth are short. In most cases, the teeth are just covered with an excess of gum tissue which can easily be removed and reshaped with a procedure known as dental crown lengthening. This procedure essentially exposes more of the surface area of your teeth so that you have a beautifully bright and large smile.
During the actual procedure, the surgeon will remove excess gum tissue and bone from the area to expose more tooth surface. The surgeon will carefully reshape the gum tissue so that the teeth are even after they have fully healed. This particular procedure may also be necessary if restoration of some kind, such as a crown or a filling, is needed underneath the gum line. We can consult with you about the best course of action when it concerns your own personal dental crown lengthening procedure.
